Mages Guild

Page history last edited by PBworks 18 years, 1 month ago

The Ald Raathim Mages Guild

Shortly after the Blue Dawn, as Ald Raathim increased in population and power, it was given the charter for a Mages Guild. As a center of magical study and a transportation hub, it is has proven to be one of the most essential organizations in the town.

Ryllil was the name of the previous Magister of the Ald Raathim Mages Guild, as it moved from an old barnhouse to the more permanent structure it enjoys in the center of town. The old Altmer retired shortly after the move, leaving the position vacant.

The second Magister of the Ald Raathim Mages Guild was Magister Zadion, an Altmer master of destruction and restoration (“The practical schools,” he said). He was replaced as Archmagister Hannibal Traven determined that he was not neutral in the conflict between the Royalists and the Indoril and Redoran Alliance.

The third and current Magister is Oryonne Druitt, a short, bearded Breton with kind eyes and strong talents in all the schools of magicka. He was an excellent teacher, capable of explaining the most obscure concept of mysticism to a child, but seemingly less at ease with more mundane small talk. Greet him on the street with a comment about good weather, and he might trap you, babbling nonsense for hours. He got along particularly well with Duke Slyvos, but Diplomatic Adjunct Glacia Rysleire found his inability to answer a simple question a frustration.

Other sorcerers of note in the Guildhouse include:

    • Red-Rock-Shadows, a.k.a. Chavokh, Slashes-with-Claws's wife, and a teacher of the School of Destruction.
    • The Guild Guide, a rather sarcastic Altmer female, whose name has not been given.
    • Vitus, Battlemage, one of the four survivors of the Tel Dresori vampire massacre.
    • Xyllina, illusionist, one of the four survivors of the Tel Dresori vampire massacre.
    • Ward-Backs, mystic and master of the somewhat unpredictable “withershin,” as well as one of the four survivors of the Tel Dresori vampire massacre. Ward-Backs’s spells were unable to break the charm of the Bathogorgen vampires, but it did eventually help in the final battle, by crafting Passwall, a lost magical spell, which opened up the dungeon, filling it with sunlight.
    • Annalor, best known as the Vile Old Man, is the Guild's chief trainer. A nasty old fellow, rude and crusty, who uses his cane to beat knowledge into his students, he is also very effective.
    • Hhelibe, a Bosmer alchemist and the Duchess's closest cohort at the Guild. Because of her Bosmeri background, Hhelibe has never felt comfortable with herbs, though she is not a strict follower of the Green Pact. Still, her ability to create powerful (and surprisingly drinkable) potions from gemstones and resin is astonishing. It is because of Hhelibe's lack of agricultural know-how that mages in need of plant stuff usually go to Loranna's castle or the herb garden at the Nymph and Noggin, rather than the rather poor greenhouse at the Guild. Andryk, the late alchemist and enchanter was Hhelibe's assistant, and his passing has upset her quite a bit.

The eight members of the Mages Guild who died in the Tel Dresori adventure have been immortalized in a monument in the Village Green, giving their names: Andryk, Baoriah, Dolkirre, Egin, Fragon, Lheres, Muthog, and Zara. Another noteworthy late Mages Guild member is Furglom, a corrupt alchemist, who apparently died in an accident in his laboratory back when the Guildhouse was in the barn. In truth, Kethiah assassinated him, hired by Ryllil.

The plump Imperial Egalius Soccitus, though technically the head of the Healers Guild, not the Mages Guild, is often in the Guildhouse as well.

The Mages Guild of the Imperial City

Archmagister Hannibal Traven is currently the head of the Mages Guilds throughout Tamriel. A generally friendly fellow, and a brilliant sorcerer, his obsession seems to be on stamping out necromantic influences in the Guild and throughout Tamriel. He first came to the attention of the group for his actions with Queen Elysana of Wayrest and King Gothryd of Daggerfall, essentially shutting down all the Mages Guilds in the Iliac Bay to investigate the explosion of ghost hauntings. After the adventure of the Eight in the Outer Spheres, this spectral break was repaired, and the Guilds were reopened.

Traven came to Ald Raathim to investigate the claims by the Redoran and Indoril Alliance that the Guild was not acting in a neutral fashion, but actively fighting against them. There was a certain risk of the Guildhouse in Ald Raathim being closed down for good, particularly with such risky quasi-necromantic characters as the ex-lich Slyvos Araberith and the current vampire Anya. After a thorough investigation with the aid of his undead expert Charroal Chane, the Archmagister elected to keep the Guildhouse open, but replace Magister Zadion with someone of less partisan politics.

Mages Guildmembers Elsewhere

Seven-Stars, a beautiful ruby-colored Argonian, is the magister for the Mages Guild in Stormhold, Black Marsh. Peel, an agile, toad-like Argonian lad is her assistant, and generally acts as guide in the city.

Zadion, former Magister of the Ald Raathim Mages Guild, is now a teacher of Restoration and Destruction at the Mages Guild in Alinor, in the Summerset Isle.
