Elysana

Summary

Born in 3E 389, the 41-year-old ruler of Wayrest has been called the Wolf Queen of our times. The daughter of the late King Eadwyre, and late Queen Carolyna, she was a young woman when her father remarried Queen Barenziah), the former ruler of Morrowind, bringing with her two children, Helseth and Morgiah. A power struggle for inheritance began between the ruthless stepsiblings, with Elysana coming out on top. Morgiah had already left to become Queen of Firsthold, but Elysana also ousted her stepmother and stepbrother upon achieving the throne.

With a consort, she has had two children, her heir Prince Eadwyre, named after her father, and his sister Tymona. Due to the events of the Warp of the West, her kingdom has greatly expanded in size, effectively controlling all of south-eastern High Rock. A tyrant in all respects, she is curiously well-beloved of her people who respect her strength as much as they fear her.

Loranna and the group first entered Elysana’s sight when they were staying at an inn in High Rock, and her Spymaster Lady Castellian suspected them of plotting against the Queen. Fighting off Elysana’s Knights of the Rose, they fled, but Elysana sent a group led by Ciel Dolbinien after them. Sir Ciel arrested Loranna and brought her to Morrowind, enraging the Queen who sought her blood, not her imprisonment. Elysana called Ciel back to Morrowind while she plotted a means to turn this unfortunate turn in her favor.

Ciel escaped thanks to Tris Gaerington, and Elysana learned about the world of the Void Rangers. Paranoid about a power beyond her ken, she hired two of them as her assassins: the demonic orc Leseth and the Void Vampire Bosriel.

Elysana’s various machinations against her despised step-brother Helseth have been plentiful. Recognizing that Loranna had the possibility to wreak havoc in Morrowind by energizing the Temple, she financed and lent undercover soldiers dressed as pilgrims to her entourage. She even went to Morrowind under cover herself, was captured, and managed to escape, with her more loyal knight, Herwyn Brand, who was to be her new Spymaster.

It was in Wayrest that the great Dwemer artifact the Eidolon was discovered, and Elysana manipulated Helseth into stealing it from her, imagining it to be an explosive device of such power, it would destroy his kingdom. Its existence was instrumental in saving the world from the Azurite threat.

The Queen continues to observe events in Morrowind, eager to support the Indoril and Redoran Alliance against Helseth. It was she who with the encouragement of Indoril Faryon who hired the Nords who first aided and then wrecked the Indoril / Redoran Alliance.

She also entered into an alliance with Gortwog gro-Nagorm, the orc king of Orsinium. The reasons behind this are mysterious to all, but the truth of the matter is that both experienced the shift into Azura’s reality together, and formed a bond fighting Azurites. When reality shifted back, they remembered what had happened, and a friendship was born.

Queen Elysana and King Gortwog’s surreal alliance has held, and as marriage between the heirs is quite out of the question (“It would be grotesque,” says the Queen diplomatically), it is a question of land. Menevia is now entirely under the reign of King Gortwog, with Elysana as its protector. Likewise, Elysana controls the entire mouth of the Bjoulsae River, with Gortwog acting as her muscle.
