Dayla

Summary

A six-hundred year old vampire of the clandestine Bathogorgen tribe, Dayla was born an Ashlander girl who ran off from her tribe and sought out the Magribash, where she met the vampiress Ashana. Seduced by promises of eternal life, power, and affection, Dayla agreed to become one of Ashana's filia, the only female filia Ashana had that had survived to the present day.

Dayla, always a selfish girl, took quickly to existance as a vampire, reveling in her new shapeshifting abilities and her innate mastery of mind-affecting magics. She, like all of Ashana's younger filia, adopted an animal as a favored form for transformation; in Dayla's case, after jumping from animal to animal, she finally settled on snakes and adopted a lamia-like form as her favored shape. She also embraced Ashana's preferences for swallowing her victims whole to drain them, and she willingly allowed Ashana to swallow her in intimate encounters. Dayla grew to love her mater, feeling but one point of contention with Ashana - Dayla wished to take a filia of her own, but Ashana expressly forbade her filia to breed, reserving that right for herself.

Over the centuries, Ashana used Dayla to help carry out her vendetta against Slyvos; though no one knew it at the time, Dayla spied on the Incarnate Mother and her enterouage during the Parade, and by Ashana's orders subtly manipulated events to allow Dagoth Lich's enemies more chances to torment him. When Ashana took on the disguise of Almalexia, Dayla, like her fellow brothers, served as Ashana's hidden hand among the Indoril and Redoran, though Dayla slowly grew resentful of Ashana's increasing aloofness to her. When her fellow brothers were destroyed during their mission to seek the runaway Geht, Dayla suffered a severe blow to her ego; frightened and alone, she siezed Anya and made the Bosmer her filia, convincing herself that Ashana would forgive this transgression. Dayla, however, was so used to hypnotyzing her prey into letting her swallow them that she automatically assumed that Anya would be grateful for becoming a vampire, and thus when Anya's friends came to rescue her, Dayla was in for a rude awakening.

Rejected by Anya, and desiring revenge on Geht, Dayla scouted out Scourg Barrow on the order of her mater, and when Ashana took control of the Diodata vampires at Tel Dresori, Dayla aided Ashana in her schemes to get her father Slyvos. When Slyvos was at Ashana's mercy, Ashana used Dayla to impersonate Loranna, and subjected her filia to painful tortures in front of Slyvos's eyes, to make the show more 'convincing'. Hurt and betrayed, and ordered by Ashana to kill Anya, Dayla finally stood up against her mater when the heroes of Ald Raathim fell to Ashana's power, and was herself drained of blood and sentenced to death. When Kingston Mune distracted Ashana at the critical moment, Dayla turned on her mater, drinking her blood in an effort to weaken her.

Since Ashana's death, Dayla has vowed to do right by her own filia Anya, and has devoted her time to claiming Ashana's considerable legacy as her own and Anya's. Though she has no idea yet what the future holds for the tiny Bathogorgen tribe, she intends to make sure the Bathogorgen are ready to meet whatever awaits them.

Prior to Ashana's death, Dayla was smug, condescending to mortals, and content to simply indulge her hungers and her whims; magic and her pet snake Shaa were the only things she took seriously. The death of her three brothers shook Dayla out of her smugness, and Ashana's actions in Tel Dresori opened Dayla's eyes to how she'd been used and manipulated by Ashana all along. Dayla is now trying to become a better mater to Anya, though she still craves attention and companionship; she has developed a fondness for Anya's werewolf friend Reichi, finding him excellent company. Ashana's power still hangs over Dayla, however, in the form of Ashana's conditioned servants; Dayla is still mulling over how best to deal with these obstacles to her destiny.
