Ashana Araberith

Summary

The youngest of Slyvos Araberith's children by his first wife, Ashana was a typical Chimeri girl of the then honorable House Dagoth, living with her loving if withdrawn father and her family. Tragedy struck, however, when Slyvos's father came to slay her mother, resulting in a battle between father and son which left their home destroyed. Ashana was trapped in the burning wreckage of their home, pinned under the body of her dead brother, and watched as Slyvos turned his back on the scene and walked away, not even trying to see if she was still alive.

Thus was born a vow of vengance that would haunt Slyvos's life for four thousand years.

Soemhow, Ashana escaped from the wreckage and wandered; the details of her early life are unknown but it is implied that at some point she became involved with the Magribash. When she was a young adult she was discovered by the progenitor vampire of the Bathogorgen tribe, and taken as one of his filia. Ashana would prove to be a most determined vampire, eventually purging the Bathogorgen of all bloodlines other than her own and slaying her mater to become the undisputed ruler and Prima Mater of the tribe. Building up her influence all over Tamriel, Ashana continually plagued her father-turned-lich, always staying well to the shadows; Dagoth Lich never had any inkling that one of his family had survived that terrible day.

During the time of the Parade, Ashana watched the events that unfolded around Loranna and her company, taking minor potshots at her father by manipulating events to favor his enemies, but for the most part she waited for a better time to take her revenge. Stunned by her father's return to mortal existance, but now realizing she finally had the advantage of power over him, she began laying her plans ...

The fall of the Tribunal and the rise of civil war in Morrowind gave Ashana the idea of impersonating Almalexia, with her two most powerful filia playing the parts of Vivec and Sotha Sil, and manipulating the Indoril and Redoran to destroy Ald Raathim and the heroes that called that city home. Her plans however were unsuccessful, and her two most powerful filia killed by the enigmatic Arynel and Solin. She herself ended up bearing the brunt of the Thu'um Shout that had once destroyed the Ministry of Truth, and survived only due to her incredible mastery of shapeshifting and her sheer desire for revenge.

Weakened and desperate, Ashana hurriedly took control of a Diodata invasion of Tel Dresori, guessing rightly that the heores of Ald Raathim would eventually be drawn to the conflict. Dressing the ruined domain in Sixth House trappings, she waited patiently for her father to come to her, and when he and the other heores did come, she captured them. Finally, after four thousand years, her father was in her power, and she gleefully tortured his body and spirit, even using her own filia Dayla as an example of what she intended to do to Loranna.

Ashana decided to further torture her father by having him watch her devour his friends in front of him, and animating their corpses to rise and attack Ald Raathim. However, thanks to the intervention of Kingston Mune, the heroes were freed, and Ashana met her end at the fangs of her own filia, the Ebony Arrow of Slaying wielded by Anya, and the wrath-driven magic of her own father. Her last words were that she hated - though she never quite managed to say who it was that she meant, her father or herself.

Ashana was a cruel and manipulative person, one who seduced people into thinking she loved and cared for them and then used them for her own ends. Her filia Dayla was the most ergerious example, but her impersonation of Almalexia was well in keeping with her attitudes. She reveled in her vampiric nature and her shapeshifting abilities, often playing with her cattle. Dayla developed her interest in swallowing her victims whole from Ashana, but Ashana took the idea to far greater extremes than Dayla ever did.

Though Ashana is finally destroyed, her memory haunts Slyvos in his dreams, and her legacy still casts a pall over everyone she hurt in her obssesive drive for revenge. Pray to the Nine that her spirit is finally at rest, for the thought of Ashana's ghost coming back someday to haunt her father is enough to make even the bravest of Ald Raathim's heroes cower in fear.
