Loranna Pyrel - Equipment

Armour:

Loranna favors light armors or no armors at all, like many mages. For most social situations or just traveling around, Loranna prefers to rely on robes or jewelry enchanted to offer protection. When entering battle or heading out on an adventure, though, Loranna wears an unique set of armour known collectively as Embrace, unalike any other in all of Tamriel.

    Embrace

    From the original post:

Loranna mutters toward Tris "You'd never look quite right in the heavy plate they make battlemages wear Tris dear; that smile of yours shouldn't be hidden under a metal pot on your head. And we're all suicidal idiots here, remember that - me included."

The armor that had caught her eye was sized for a man, which made Loranna frown - but her eye caught the glint of blue-colored glass that matched that of the skeleton she was currently examining, and picking up the fallen blue glas shortsword she walks over to the other outfit she sees ... Whoever this skeleton had been in life, she must have been quite a warrior; a glass axe and an ebony broadsword lay in her bony hands, both still in good condition. Her armor, however, was made of blue glass, like the one she had meant to take a moment ago, but this suit was far more complete, and perhaps even a custom design. The usual spiky bits were missing, giving the armor a very sleek look. In place of boots were glass shin guards, and instead of a helm there was a blue glass tiara. The whole armor was inlayed with gold, just enough to accent the graceful, smooth curves. The armor was still in good condition and the woman was about Loranna's size; within a few moments, Loranna stood resplendant in her new suit of blue glass armor, her tiara glinting in the dim light, glass shortswrd replacing her old silver one in her scabbard and the skeleton woman's weapons carefully tied to her pack. Loranna moves around a bit, getting used to the feel of her new armor, and she bends down to collect some jewelry that catches her eye, for later selling, or perhaps gifting - some of this stuff might appeal to Doll ...

Embrace is a suit of Stalhrim (enchanted ice) armor, made sometime in the long-ago past by a craftsman who knew how to work Stalhrim into a light suit of armor. The armor is evidentally made with spellcasters in mind, having a tiara in place of a helm (minimizing the narrowing of the field of vision) and bracers instead of gauntlets (to facilitate spellcasting gestures). The suit itself is the light blue of Stalhrim, with gold inlays in an intricate Nordic pattern.

Loranna found Embrace deep in the Vaults of Gemin, when she and her friends quested for the gem Flamekiss; the armor was found on the body of an unfortunate who had fallen prey to a lich and become a zombie. Loranna sometimes wonders who the previous owner was, and who crafted the suit, for currently no one knows how to work Stalhrim so cunningly. Since then, though, she has claimed the armor for herself, naming it and asking Allerleirauh to enchant it for her.

In addition to being a superb set of armor, Embrace has the ability to take spells cast at its wearer into itself, nullifying the spell and granting its wearer the spell's magicka.

Fun Fact: Loranna chose the name Embrace mostly because Spelldrinker sounded silly to her ears and she couldn't come up with anything else that sounded better.

Weapons:

Loranna's favored weapons are daggers, short swords, maces, and staves; she almost always has a dagger on her and has a number of differnet staves to use, trying to find one she can definitively call her own. She has, thanks to training with Dragon, become at least moderately profecient with longer swords and with spears, though she has yet to take up using either axes or bows.

When adventuring in the past, however, she has relied primarily on her trademark weapons, Caress and Bell-Ringer.

    Caress

A shortsword made of Stalhrim, the companion weapon to Embrace even though when found, it was held by a different zombie; Loranna recovered Caress in the Vaults of Gemin when she recovered the suit of ice armor, and had it enchanted by Allerleirauh. The sword's hilt bears the same gold inlay designs as the armor, and has wider quillions (cross guard) than the standard Imperial Shortsword, emphesizing the blade's defensive qualities.

Caress is a well-balanced sword, suitable for a spellcaster who wishes to have a defensive weapon with good offensive ability. When Caress strikes an enemy, it draws out their strength and gives it to its wielder, enabling even a traditionally weak spellcaster to overpower her enemy.

    Bell-Ringer

A mace made of adamantium and inlayed with rubies and sapphires, obviously made to bear a powerful enchantment. Loranna found this mace in Sharlian's wizard tower, after she and her companions had faced Sharlian's former master and his animated gargoyles in combat; realizing that a short sword was not the ideal weapon for all encounters, Loranna chose to take this weapon from the tower's treasury as part of her reward for freeing Sharlian, and she asked her husband Slyvos to enchant it for her.

Bell-Ringer is imbued with the power to enhance its wielder's strength dramtically when held, allowing for truly powerful blows to be struck.

Fun Fact: Bell-Ringer gets its name from the Nordic saying "To Ring His Bell" - meaning to sock someone full in the face. In Skyrim, this is considered an acceptable way to greet someone under the proper circumstances.

      Post-Oblivion Weapons

During the Oblivion Crisis, Loranna did not have access to her preferred armor or weapons, and had to make due with what she could find. The Khajiit enchanter, Suiko, offered to create weapons of magical ice for Loranna if she could provide the necessary Frost Salts in exchange for a chance to study the Sigil Stones Loranna recovered; Loranna took Suiko up on her offer and soon had the Khajiit craft for her a matched short sword and buckler, both perfectly matched for Loranna's build and fighting style, which have taken the place of Caress as her preferred bladed weapon. Shortly after the Oblivion Crisis, Suiko crafted a beautiful staff of magical ice for Loranna, which has since become Loranna's trademark accesory - when she hasn't lent it to Suiko to use, that is.

The short sword is slightly longer than Caress, but shares many of the same qualities, including the enlarged quillions and strength-absorbing enchantment. The buckler is a typical round shape, light and manueverable, and has been enchanted with the power of a Sigil Stone to ward off both fire and physical blows. Both the sword and the buckler have been inlayed with gold to match the designs on Loranna's armor, and the buckler furthermore bears a depiction of a tearstreaked woman's face, complete with silver tears.

The staff bears a potent healing enchantment, allowing its bearer to heal while casting another sort of spell or to heal while silenced or drained of magicka. The staff itself is lit from within by a white light whenever used, the magical energy following the intricate patterns inlayed within the staff itself. Despite its primary purpose as a tool for healing, the staff is quite sturdy; Loranna has used it succesfully in more martial pursuits, including braining a necromancer trying to kill Suiko.

Fun Fact: Loranna is STILL trying to come up with good names for her new equipment; she doesn't want to re-use Caress, and she hesitates to mention she thinks of her buckler as The Weeping Redeemer. Her staff, she just plain hasn't even tried to name yet.

    Miscellaneous items:

In addition to her two rings, Loranna is fond of wearing pretty, enchanted jewelry to provide other protective and useful effects. She often wears a bracelet of levitation and a bracelet of sanctuary, plus an amulet or robe of spell absorption when she's not wearing Embrace.

      Jazbet's Wedding Band

A gold ring with a cat eye gem in its center; Jazbet presented this ring to Loranna the night before she left for the Vaults of Gemin, as both a gift to protect her and as a promise that the two would be wed when she returned, should she wish it. Since accepting Jazbet's love, she has never taken the ring off.

Jazbet's ring is enchanted with two powers; it can make its wearer invisible, and it grants its wearer night vision equal to a cat's, or a Khajiit's. The ring indeed helped save Loranna's life in Gemin, allowing her to face off against three dopplegangers of her friends and survive.

      Slyvos's Wedding Band

An ebony and gold ring; Dagoth enchanted this ring and presented it to Loranna after their big argument upon escaping from the Vaults of Gemin, as a sign of his friendship and devotion to her; when Loranna asked for Slyvos to marry her, she swore this ring would be their wedding band.

Slyvos's ring contains a powerful healing spell which, so long as the ring still has power, can heal even grevious wounds; on one occasion, the ring saved Loranna's life when an assassin's dagger plunged into her heart.

      Enchanted Mirror

A small hand mirror, originally presented to Loranna as she was leaving for Gemim by an Ashlander shaman. The mirror allowed its holder to see visions of the future, a gift which sat uneasily with Loranna at the time.

Later, the Breton Arynel changed the enchantment in the mirror; it no longer has the power to see into the future, but now it enables Loranna to see anyone related to her upon command. The mirror proved helpful in finding Loranna's father Gram, and is kept in a safe place in case she ever needs to track down her husband for any reason - or her father or children.
